From
1993 to 2005, Jamie Clarke scaled five of the world's highest Seven
Summits - Mount Aconcagua (South America), Mount McKinley (North
America) Mount Everest (Aisia),
Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa) and Mount Elbrus (Europe).
In 1999, Jamie did something completely different - he traversed
the Empty Quarter of Arabia on camel.

"As wide as all the
world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun, was
the square top of Mount Kilimanjaro."
Ernest Hemingway

July 19 -
28, 2001
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain in the world. It is actually a three coned, 19,335-foot volcano. Though none
of the volcano's cones have been active in modern times, steam and
sulphur are still released from Kilbo, the tallest cone. Kilimanjaro's
summit is crowned by a huge crater - it is one and a half miles
wide.
Although Kilimanjaro
is not as technically difficult as Everest, it is the most climatically
diverse. Snow capped and shrouded by clouds, a climb up Kilimanjaro
will expose an individual to temperatures ranging from 85 degrees
at the foot of the mountain to - 4 degrees on the summit.
Africa
first inspired Jamie to pursue an adventuresome life. Now, more
than ten years later - after climbing Mount Everest, Mount McKinley
and Mount Aconcagua - after having traversed the Empty Quarter of
Arabia - and after adventuring in 40 countries - Jamie has returned
to Africa.
Kilimanjaro
is a great warm-up to the remaining summits he has yet to explore
- the Carstensz Pyramid (Indonesia), Mount Elbrus (Europe) and Mount
Vinson (Antarctica). Please visit our website often for expedition
updates.
