Everest's Khumbu icefall taught Jamie how to manage his fear of falling into a deep crevasse.
Hidden deep within the Empty Quarter's desert wells a new challenge awaited Jamie. We descend into the dusty darkness that kills the light of our lamps. Neither Musallim, nor Ali, nor bin Ashara is interested in joining us, but Sheikh Musallim bin Said, whose family owns this well, will show us the way. With a couple of gerbers (goat skins used for water storage) in hand, we stand inside the first chamber, which could accommodate about 5 people huddled tightly in a circle. The tattered ropes hang past the rock lip at our feet leading us deep into the earth...
