A
34-year-old adventurer, author, and gifted speaker, Jamie Clarke
is a former cross country ski champion who has undertaken grueling
journeys to some of the most desolate landscapes on earth.
Jamie
Clarke's passion for adventure began when he was a toddler riding
in a dog sled through the Rocky Mountains of Canada. This passion
has been present in every endeavor he has undertaken - ski racing
- exploring more than forty countries - climbing Mount Everest
- traversing the Empty Quarter of the Arabian Desert.
In
1991, he was nominated for the Order of Canada for his role in
enabling the first live broadcasts to Canada from Mt. Everest.
With 25 years of mountain experience, this three time ski champion
has reached five of the highest "Seven Summits" in the world:
Mount Aconcagua (1993), Mount McKinley (1996), Mount Everest (1997)
Mount Kilimanjaro (2001) and Mount Elbrus (2002). He was the ninth
Canadian to summit Everest and one of three Westerners to cross
the Empty Quarter in 46 years.
Jamie
coauthored The Power of Passion, the story of his first
two Everest expeditions, and has produced three documentary films,
two of which have been broadcast by National Geographic. He released
his new book, Everest to Arabia in January 2001.
In
addition to co-organizing and fund raising for three Everest expeditions,
Jamie is a renowned inspirational speaker and storyteller.
Jamie
Clarke resides in Calgary with his wife Barbara and their son
Khobe.
